Brand Spotlight: Nalgene™

Nalgene™, owned by Thermo Fisher Scientific, and manufacturer by Nalge Nunc International, is a brand of products with a reputation of consistent quality made with durable materials. The general consumer primarily recognizes the Nalgene brand for their translucent drinking bottles used by outdoor enthusiasts. However, Nalgene got its start in the laboratory and medical industries long before it was known for reusable outdoor containers. In 1949, in Rochester, NY, a chemist named Emanuel Goldberg developed a plastic pipette holder. It was the first of its kind.  Goldberg began the Nalge company and started producing plastic laboratory equipment. Goldberg and his team years later develop the Nalgene line to include laboratory products such as centrifuge bottles, filter units, storage tanks, flasks, beakers and vials. Since the plastic they developed was stronger and lighter than the standard glass, it quickly became a favorite for scientists work

In the laboratory field, Nalgene is a well-known for making quality testing equipment. They are manufactured from clear, durable polystyrene and include an integrated, removable PES membrane filter. These Nalgene filter units are specifically designed for cell culture and tissue culture applications. 298-9020 FastCap Large Volume Bottle Filter, .2µm: The FastCap Bottle Top Filters, with their universal fit, can easily be placed on bottle mouth, apply the vacuum and start filtering. These filters fit bottlenecks up to 53 mm and filter up to 5L of media. Polystyrene housing is blue, 90-mm PES membrane with .2µm pore size. Nalgene Nylon Membrane Sterile Complete Filters - 0.22µm - 0.45µm pore size: These filters are available in 1000 ml, 500 ml, 250 ml and 150 ml with 90 mm or 50 mm diameter sizes. Naturally hydrophilic, tissue-culture grade nylon membrane exhibits less than 0.5% extractables by weight, contains no wetting agents, and is alcohol-resistant. Graduated polystyrene upper chamber and receiver storage bottle. Side arm features a cellulosic vent plug and quick-disconnect tubing adapter. Filter cup is printed with catalog number, lot number, membrane material, pore size, and expiration date. Radiation sterile. Certified nonpyrogenic and noncytotoxic.
